Martha’s Village and Kitchen is proud to celebrate 27 years of service and helping those in need! On April 10, 2017, Martha’s reached the 27-year milestone of providing programs and services to the homeless and impoverished of the Coachella Valley region.
Martha’s began in 1990 when the founders served meals to their homeless neighbors. The organization has come a long way since the humble beginning, and has grown to be one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County. Martha’s Village and Kitchen is a safe, welcoming environment for impoverished and homeless families, children, and individuals, providing a proven robust selection of housing, education, and support services so that they are empowered to transform their lives with dignity. Martha’s collaborates and partners with other organizations and agencies to leverage resources and fill gaps to ensure the effectiveness and long term sustainability of the organization and to break the cycle of poverty for neighbors in need.
From its campus in Indio, CA, Martha’s serves over a quarter of a million meals each year and has the capacity to house 120 homeless children, women and men each night. The clients of Martha’s come from all walks of life, and no two individuals or families are the same. The elderly, those experiencing the loss of a job, home, overwhelming medical expenses and fleeing domestic violence are among the 6,000 people that seek Martha’s for help each year.

“I would recommend Martha’s to anyone else who needs a fresh start in making a better life for themselves.” – Nikki
To further the mission of transforming lives of the most vulnerable in the community, Martha’s operates a variety of programs and services. Among these unique and life-changing resources are Food Services, Transitional Housing, Children’s Services, Career and Education, individualized Case Management and Emergency Assistance. Through these valuable programs, many find hope and the strength to regain their lives by becoming responsible, self-sufficient and productive citizens. Martha’s envisions a community where all people have the opportunity to live to their full potential; where everyone has food, housing, healthcare, education and the means to maintain them. For the last 27 years, Martha’s has been instrumental in changing the lives of countless families and individuals in the community. However, there is still much work to be done.
For the next 27 years and beyond, Martha’s Village and Kitchen is committed to satisfying hunger in the community, housing those with no where to call home, and creating the opportunity for struggling and hurting community members to overcome seemingly unsurpassable obstacles.
Without the generous support of community partners, donors, and volunteers, Martha’s would not be able to continue this important work. On this 27th anniversary, Martha’s would like to sincerely thank all who have supported the organization and shown tremendous compassion for the homeless and those experiencing poverty in the community. It truly takes a Village to help those in need!
