Volunteer Orientation
Every first and third Wednesday of each month, our Community Relations and Volunteer Coordinator hosts a Volunteer Orientation. During Orientation, volunteers complete a Volunteer Application if they haven’t filled one out already, take a tour of our facility, and learn about volunteer opportunities in all the different departments at MVK. After the tour, any questions left will be answered, and we will help determine the best placement for new volunteers based on skills, interest, and talents.
You can fill out a Volunteer Application here: Volunteer Application
Start Volunteering
After Orientation, volunteers are welcome to start volunteering as soon as the next day! Volunteers 10 through 14 years of age, must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers 15 through 17 are able to volunteer on their own with the signed consent from their guardian Parent/Guardian Authorization Form. The Kitchen and Thrift Store do not need to be scheduled, you are volunteering in a group of 4 or more.
Our Kitchen and Dining Room are open to volunteers Monday through Friday anywhere between 6AM and 6PM and 10AM to 6pm Saturday and Sunday. Our Thrift Store is open to volunteers Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 6PM.
We also have volunteer opportunities outside of the office and for the younger population. Kids can participate in events such as our Thanksgiving 5K, start a MVK club at school, host a donation drive, create an online fundraiser or participate in “Buckets for Change.” You can also reach out with any fun ideas you may have. Volunteers can do things such as teaching dance. Volunteers can read to the children in the daycare, cut hair and even tutor the kids in our Residential Facility.
When volunteers arrive for their shift, they first need to sign in on a log provided. This log helps us track the volunteer hours for each volunteer. We keep these logs for 5 years and are able to backtrack when volunteers need confirmation of their hours; whether it be school related, for a job application, or for a church. Also, the Volunteer Coordinator can write a letter of recommendation after 90 volunteer hours are complete.
A Bigger Impact
When you volunteer, it helps in different ways as well. We use volunteer hours as a “match” in grants to help MVK with funding. The tracking and recording of your volunteer hours help Martha’s Village and Kitchen with our grants and with securing and keeping funding.
There are many benefits to volunteering. Volunteering is good for your health! When you volunteer, you can decrease your stress levels and stay physically and mentally active. Volunteering is a great way to gain work experience and to make a difference in your community!
If you’re interested in volunteering, please try to attend Volunteer Orientation. If you are not able to make an orientation, call our Volunteer Coordinator and schedule your own personal tour and orientation.
