About Martha’s Village and Kitchen
Martha’s Village & Kitchen (MVK) has served Coachella Valley’s homeless and impoverished for the over 28 years. “Martha’s Kitchen,” the original name of the organization, opened its doors in 1990. It’s goal was to provide hot lunches, clothing, motel vouchers, and rental assistance.
Today, from our campus in Indio, California, MVK offers life-changing programs. These programs address critical needs and provide solutions for those who need them. Through this gateway to hope, people improve their lives. They become independent. They also become more productive citizens. Then, they pass these new life skills to their children and families.
MVK serves over 6,000 neighbors in need from throughout the Valley each year. We address both the causes and the symptoms of homelessness, MVK offers emergency housing for families and individuals, nutritious meals, case management, childcare, recovery services, employment and education services, and emergency assistance. We also supplement these programs with a thrift store, medical clinic, computer lab, food pantry, resource room, and a cooling center.
