“I am extremely excited since it has been over 15 years since I have had a place to call my own.”
Nick arrived at Martha’s Village and Kitchen on July 13th, 2017 homeless and with a broken wheelchair. Prior to coming to MVK, Nick was in a convalescent hospital for three years. He had several surgeries on his right leg and almost lost it due to a severe infection. The last surgery was scheduled at Desert Regional in Palm Springs, bringing him to the desert area.
After Nick was released from the hospital, he did not want to return to an assisted care provider and was connected to Roy’s Desert Resource Center. After the closing of Roy’s, he found himself on the street with nowhere to go. Nick found out about the residential program at MVK and moved in shortly after.
“The Case Management Team worked diligently to assist me in getting a new wheelchair and following up with the housing authority.”
Nick is currently conditionally approved for Tenant Based Rental Assistance from Project Home II and is eligible for a studio or one bedroom unit. With the help of his Case Worker, Nick is actively searching for a place to call his own.
