“My favorite thing about Martha’s is having a roof over my head. I feel secure.”
Jessica had been a live-in caregiver for over 3 years when her client passed away in December of 2016. Jessica did not have anywhere to go so she left her son with a family friend to finish off his school year and went to at stay at a local homeless shelter, but due to unforeseen circumstances, she decided to make a change.
“Thank you Jesus, I have a room, a bed and a toilet with a door!”
Jessica came to live at Martha’s Village and Kitchen in February on the single women’s side. She transitioned to the family side in June when her 17 year old son came to stay with her when the school year ended. MVK is the largest provider of family services and believes in preserving the family unit as they journey to successfully securing permanent housing.
Jessica’s long term goal, after moving into a house, is to buy a car that is reliable to get to church. She is a lead volunteer in the Children’s Ministry department at Destiny’s Church and knows that helping others is her life calling. 100% of adult clients are provided with Case Management Services from the beginning to end of their stay at MVK.
“MVK has helped me get my mind right and my health right.”
Jessica would like to become an employee of Martha’s Village and Kitchen in the near future and currently volunteers her time helping the homeless clients apply for jobs using the tools made available in the Resource room.
