Helen and her two daughters, Anna and Alena, moved into Martha’s Village & Kitchen in late 2017. She completed all of the agency’s self-sufficiency and resource development classes including Challenge to Change, Healthy Relationships, and computer classes where she gained knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. She participated in our Smart Money and budgeting classes as well. Helen developed excellent time management skills, and she was very serious about and found value in the concept of budgeting.
In time, Helen obtained and maintained employment at a local retailer. She continued to carefully maintain her budget and always paid her shared living expenses on time. As a resident of Martha’s Village and Kitchen, Helen always maintained a clean and organized room. She has been a model client in every way!
Helen has been through a lot of changes and turmoil over the past ten years, and she has overcome MANY obstacles. She is a loving mother to her two daughters. She wants to provide them with the best life possible.
Recently, Helen was promoted and given a pay raise. She continues to thrive at her job. Also, through a partnership with the City of La Quinta, the City of La Quinta Housing Authority, and KD Housing Partners, Inc, Helen and the girls were able to move into a beautiful apartment! They were provided with furniture and other household items through this partnership and because of other generous donors.
On their move-in day, Helen and girls were so grateful! They all had tears of joy in their eyes. Alena, who is two years old, immediately claimed the bottom bunk bed, and she loved her pretty, fluffy blanket. Anna, who is ten years old, was thrilled about the top bunk bed, and she loved all of the beautiful accessories and furniture in their new apartment. All three of them were thrilled to be HOME.
Helen said, “There are no words that can express how grateful I am. I just can’t believe it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
We here at Martha’s Village & Kitchen wish them all of the best, and we are so proud to have played a part in changing their lives for the better. We are so grateful to the City of La Quinta and KD Housing Partners for all of their generosity and hard work. Both of these groups have gone above and beyond to change the lives of Helen, Ann, and Alena.
