“I was in a pit of deep despair and having suicidal thoughts.”
Many people come to Martha’s Village & Kitchen for different reasons and utilize different services. Homelessness can happen to anyone. Ernest became homeless after losing his job due to a medical condition. Before entering the program here at MVK, Ernest had no place to live for about a month.
“Once I got to Martha’s with the help of their friendly and respectful staff I was able to overcome my deep depression, obtain employment through their job search program, and find housing!”
As soon as Ernest entered the program he immediately began working with both his case manager and the residential team on a case plan that was specific to his needs. He took computer classes to strengthen his skills, he attended our Smart Money class that teaches how to budget, and Challenge to Change that teaches how to grow from your past and learn from your choices. Ernest also attended various workshops available here at MVK.
“They saved my life and I am eternally grateful for all their help.”
He was able to seek help for his depression, and because of his tenacity and determination, he was able to obtain employment a little after a month into his stay. Not too long after obtaining employment Ernest was able to secure affordable housing.
