Jamie had a devastating house fire that caused both her and her children to become homeless. With no money or support for food or shelter, Jamie was not sure what she was going to do. After looking into different resources, Jamie reached out to Martha’s Village & Kitchen for help. She learned that Martha’s is one of the few local shelters that have the capacity to keep an entire family unit together in their own personal room. Jamie was assigned a Case Manager who helped her navigate through all of the programs and services available. Alone this can be very overwhelming.
During her time at Martha’s, Jamie has been able to work with our Employment Specialist and learn new computer skills as she works to get her house fixed and move back in.
“My favorite program at Martha’s is learning new things on the computers downstairs. Learning how to use a computer is very rewarding for me. Learning how to use excel and word is a great achievement and so is getting certificates for the classes I completed.”
Jamie has a long term goal of going back to school to major in English and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree. She is looking forward to a better life for both her and her children and shared how much of an impact Martha’s has had on her life. Through the Women’s Empowerment groups to the staff being available to always help, Jamie has built more confidence to achieve her goals.
