Martha’s Village and Kitchen (MVK) has been serving our homeless community for 27 years. It started with a mission to feed as many homeless in the community as possible, and the love and support grew from there. Today our mission is to empower the homeless and impoverished children, men and women with basic needs like housing, food services, clothing, child care, and helping them on the path to self-sufficiency. Last year alone Martha’s helped more than 6,200 homeless and neighbors in need. Served more than a quarter of a million meals. Housed more than 350 men, women and children!
When you give to Martha’s you are helping the children, men and women of our community. You are helping someone to not have to ask the question, “What is more important eating or paying the rent?” Your contribution, whether it be monetary or In-Kind, will make a difference in our community. Below are just a few reasons that may encourage others to support Martha’s Village and Kitchen.
1. You Can Make A Difference
Your monetary or In-Kind donation will help countless lives of those less fortunate. An In-Kind donation of clothes helps our homeless every single day. For example, Martha’s provides the residents of MVK and the homeless community with vouchers for changes of clothes. Those vouchers get distributed to the homeless through our thrift store where they can pick out an outfit or other needed items. That blanket or pillow you donated to the thrift store last week is now being used by a child that resides at Martha’s. Mind blown, right? And for monetary donations, a little bit can go a long way! Here are just a few examples:
- A $50.00 donation houses and feeds (3 meals a day) a family for two nights.
- A contribution of $250.00 houses, feeds and provides child care for a child for two weeks.
- Your support of $350.00 will help the homeless escape the excruciating summer’s heat by helping to operate our cooling center, providing water and snacks to many homeless for a week.
- A $450.00 monetary donation feeds about 175 of our community’s homeless and impoverished lunch.
2. Giving Will Help You Feel Better
Giving will give you a sense of pride knowing that you helped a child with clothes, food and also helped with providing them with a safe place to sleep at night. In knowing that you gave what you could should make you feel proud, because you have the power to make an impact with your gift. Touching the lives of others will make you feel good about what you have accomplished. Together, with your support for MVK, we will be able to provide for more of our valley’s homeless community.
3. You Will Learn About Your Community
So what have we learned so far? Martha’s Village and Kitchen isn’t only a “soup kitchen” but that people do reside here. You can join us for a tour to find out more about the programs and services offered at MVK. Did you also know that the homeless population has increased dramatically in the Coachella Valley in the past year alone? And within the same year, the Coachella Valley has lost Roy’s Desert Resource Center, a major resource that provided services and support for the homeless community. Donating will bring you awareness to what is happening in our valley. Find out more HERE.
4. Because You Can
Supporting Martha’s Village and Kitchen and helping the homeless and impoverished has nothing to do with social status. Giving isn’t only for the “Rich” because they can afford it, but it is for those that are rich in the heart. In our busy lives we take a lot for granted, and we forget that there are people that go to sleep hungry and cold. Donating is about bringing hope to the underprivileged.
5. Tax Deductible
Your contribution is tax deductible regardless if it is an In-Kind or monetary donation. You may use your receipt on your taxes or keep it for your personal records.
Have you heard the phrase “Spread the Love?” Some people have found that by giving or spreading the love, they have actually ended up receiving more than what they gave. You can make a difference and start supporting Martha’s Village and Kitchen today! Change the lives of the homeless and our neighbors in need by making a contribution that will make you feel better about yourself, impact the lives of many, and is tax deductible.
